Fourth of July Fun

post-fourthofjuly

So my family came into town over Fourth of July weekend and we got to explore San Francisco. They arrived the evening of July 2 and we picked them up from the airport and went to dinner. We started heading to San Francisco on July 3. That day we took BART and explored China Town and decided on taking one of those hop on/hop off bus tours. Apparently there was something wrong with one of the buses and it made the other buses a lot more packed. They didn’t even check our ticket so we decided to start early on July 4 and use our ticket again.

That day we decided to take the ferry and when we arrived at Pier 41, we ate brunch at Boudin. I had the bread bowl with clam chowder and it was delicious. After that, we did the Golden Gate Bridge tour and also the downtown tour. It was fun.

By the time the tour was done, we decided to do some shopping and then we had already worked up an appetite for dinner. We ate at the Crab House on Pier 39. We got crab, shrimp, and mussels. I just ate the crab. When we finished, we got in line for the ferry (because there was only one ferry going out after the fireworks and we wanted to make sure we were on it). The fireworks started around 9:30. It was okay, but it was so foggy (typical San Francisco weather), that we could barely see the fireworks. It was a fun experience though considering I haven’t done that since we moved up here in 2008.

Family left July 5 and I was so tired, I just slept that day. I miss them already though!

What did you do for Fourth of July?

Remembering Dad

post-rememberingdad
This past weekend, my mom and I headed down to Santa Cruz harbor and met up with my Grandmama, Uncle, Aunt, and 2 cousins to celebrate my dad’s life. On April 23, it had been one year since he passed and we decided to spend the weekend with family. We started off at The Crow’s Nest and had lunch. Afterwards, we took some pictures at the harbor and then headed back to my Aunt’s.

We got back to her house and played dominoes (one of my dad’s favorite games). We played a full round and by the time we were done, it was time for dinner. My aunt was making a chicken dish in her crock pot that turned out delicious. After that, my mom and I headed back home. It was nice seeing everyone and remembering the good times. It was also nice to see my Grandmama because she has been having some health problems so it was just nice to catch up with everyone.

When my mom and I got home, I was hit with the stomach flu. At my work we had been sending a few children home with it on Friday so I wasn’t surprised I got it. I was up all night. I will spare you the details but let’s just say I had every symptom that is associated with the stomach flu. I was out of commission all day Sunday as well and called in sick Monday. I’m finally feeling better and eating real foods again.

A Wonderful Experience

post-experience
I work full time at an infant and toddler daycare center as the office manager. I also am a certified preschool teacher. It’s amazing getting to see the children come in as babies and leave as 3 year olds. However, last year something happened that changed my life. The director of the daycare and I are really close. She is like a second mom to me and was there for me in ways that I can’t even thank her when my dad passed. She had been granted custody of her 3 grandchildren in October of 2013 (ages 1, 2, and 3). Last June, she was given custody of their twin sisters (who at the time were only 6 weeks old). She never hesitated when asked to take them in.

That day, she and I waited for hours after the daycare closed for the social worker to bring the twins over to our work place. When they got there, the director was in shock. She was talking with the social worker while I got the twins, changed their diaper, and got them ready to go home. They started coming to our daycare around August and getting to see them grow has been a wonderful experience.

Today, they turn one. I can’t believe how much they have grown and blossomed. Baby A just started walking last week just in time for her birthday. She is such a happy baby and loves being around others. Baby B is a bit more cautious but once she warms up to you, she is the sweetest baby. This past Sunday they had their birthday party and it was so fun. I have loved being apart of their family and having them let me enjoy this experience with them.

I have so much love for them that I can hardly imagine what it will feel like when I have my own children. I can’t wait for that.
